I am so happy to announce that FuzzypegFolk will be opening a lovely, little shop on April 16th in the historic market town of Bungay in Suffolk, which is where I live.

The full address is 11a Market Place, Bungay NR35 1AP

And the opening hours will be Wednesday to Saturday 10am - 4pm

This is still as much a surprise to me as it probably is to you. When I launched this website in November 2024 I intended to run FuzzypegFolk as an online shop for the foreseeable future. I also planned to have pop-up shops in my gypsy-style wagon at selected folk fairs and markets in East Anglia.

People often asked me "Will you ever have an actual shop?" To which I replied "Oh no! Well not for a long time anyway" but deep down a little voice kept saying "I would LOVE to have a shop!"

So I couldn't help myself looking at local premises for rent ...just in case!

I heard that a perfect little place had become available on the Market Place in Bungay several months ago but when I contacted the landlord it had been taken. Then, to my amazement she contacted me in December to say that it had become available again and would I be interested. I had to think about that for about a minute and then said YES!

The shop looks out onto the beautiful Butter Cross and Bungay's busy Market Place.

In 1688 much of Bungay was destroyed by the Great Fire. The Market Cross was one of the first buildings to be replaced in order to re-establish trade as quickly as possible. Wooden steps inside the domed structure were provided so that traders could sit and display their produce of butter, eggs and cheeses, so it became known as the Butter Cross.

This ancient tradition continues and there is still a market here every Thursday with stalls selling fruit and vegetables, bread, hot food and sometimes artisan things.

I am very much looking forward to being part of the hustle and bustle of this street scene.

So for the past few weeks I have been madly busy transforming the shop from a rather dreary, grey and white office space into the colourful world of FuzzypegFolk. The interior is now painted but we are waiting for better weather to give the outside a big makeover too.

Here are some before and after pics of the inside - I will post some of the outside as soon as that's been painted:

So as you can see I've been having great fun with the colours. I decided the shop should have a bit of a circus/fairground colour theme to light up all the lovely folk art things for sale and make them sing, like this Romanian enamel bread bin:

Now to find the rest of the furniture and accessories to complete the look and then get arranging all the stock for opening day.

I have bought all sorts of new things from existing and new suppliers which will be listed on my website from 10th March. Here is a taster:
